1. Overview

 

The design of this equipment meets the requirements of GB/T2951.32-2008 and GB/T8815-2008. High temperature test of polyethylene mix insulation and sheath for wire and cable in oil. The temperature control system has a PID function, high control precision and good stability.

3. Method of Use

 

(1) Fill the oil tank with oil before the test.

(2) Plug in the power cord (AC220V) and turn on the “Power” switch on the control panel.

(3) On the "Temperature Control" (ie thermostat), set the temperature required for the test.

(4) Turn on the “heating” switch and “stirring” switch, and turn the oil pump valve behind the chassis counterclockwise to the proper position to make the oil in the oil tank evenly heated. (Note: When turning the oil pump valve, you must pay attention to the stirring speed of the oil in the oil tank. If the oil in the oil tank is stirring fast, the oil pump valve must be adjusted to the proper position to prevent the oil in the oil tank from splashing.)

(5) When the current temperature display value on the thermostat reaches the set test temperature, insert the glass tube containing the test sample from six holes on the oil tank cover.

(6) Then set the time required for the test on the timer, then open the “Timer” switch on the control panel, and “Test Time” starts timing.

(7) When the test time reaches the set time, the buzzer will alarm and turn off the power, take out the sample, and the test is over.

(8) After the test is over, arrange the test equipment in time for the next use.

 

4. Test Related Information

 

Test equipment

a) A glass tube having a length of 110 mm, an outer diameter of about 5 mm, and an inner diameter of (4.0±0.5) mm sealed at one end (e.g., sealed by a melt method).

Pipes made of AR glass shall comply with:

- ISO 719: Grade 3 hydrolysis resistance;

- ISO1776: Grade 1 acid resistant;

- ISO 695: Grade 2 alkali resistant.

b) Universal test paper with a pH in the range of 1 to 10.

c) A heater that can control the temperature. The test temperature shall be as specified in the relevant cable product standard, and if not specified, it shall be controlled at (200±0.5)℃. The oil bath is preferred.

d) Thermometer with a scaled value of 0.1℃.

Depending on the type of thermometer used and the calibration and method of use, it may be necessary to correct the silver column.

e) Stopwatch or a suitable timer.

 

Test procedure

Note: In order to obtain reliable test results and limit their dispersion, it is absolutely necessary to use a sufficiently accurate thermometer and meet the specified test temperature limits.

(1) Cut three samples from the insulated or tested sheath of each tested insulated core. Each sample consists of two or three narrow strips of 20 to 30 mm in length and weighs approximately (50±5) mg.

Place the sample in the glass tube specified above, and the sample should not be 30 mm above the bottom of the glass tube.

(2) Insert a dry universal test paper (as specified above) approximately 15 mm long and 3 mm wide into the open end (top) of the glass tube. The paper strip extends approximately 5 mm from the nozzle and is bent and fixed in this position.

(3) Place the glass tube in a heating device that has been heated to the specified test temperature to a depth of 60 mm.

(4) Determine the time taken for the color of the test paper to change from pH 5 to pH 3; or the test continues until the color of the test paper does not change during the specified test time. When the red color on the universal test paper corresponding to pH 3 begins to change significantly, it should be considered that the color change point has been reached. At the end of the estimated test time, the universal test strip should be replaced every 5 ~ 10 minutes (especially for the long-term stability test), so that the change point is easier to see.
